Living Knot: Modern Residence in Korea

Living Knot: Modern Residence in Korea (14)

This is the very new project being completed at a rural area of a village of Gangneung. Polymur Architecture is the architects for this project. The project is a bit special because of its genre of construction as this house is of highly modern type. The Korean tradition of villa designing has been interpreted in well-defined manner in order to give it a modern look. The name LIVING KNOT says it all. The construction is a junction of mainly two volumes, made up of different materials.

The house is broadly divided functionally as well as visually too.  The living space and other public areas within the house has been divided the two rings that shares the volumes and circulation space of the house. During the designing of this house, the interactions between the different spaces of this house have been integrated in such a way so that it produces a particular indeterminacy that proceeds towards the better use of space. The large amount of openness makes everything in the interiors typically special. The openness provided in this house is borrowed from traditional Korean design.
