2013 gave us the three academy awards winning film directed by the first black Director Steve McQueen ” 12 Years a Slave .”  It depicts the American history’s touching true story impresses one and all. Based on times of slavery in the pre-civil war in America and how incredible is invincible spirit of man can win against all odds to free himself.

It has all the glueing components to keep one interested in the unfolding story about slavery practiced. It was a real life concluded as accurate.The theme of movie will be remembered for all times to come. Solomon Northup’s memoir is the centre of the drama where an African-American born man is captured in 1841 sold as a slave to Southern plantation farmer for human exploitation.

Written by John Ridley the film central role Soloman Northup is played by Chiwetel Ejiofor. Brad Pitt is amongst the array of fine stars who are in the supporting roles. The film is shot in Louisiana ‘s New orleans backdrop to give validity. The film was shot from June 27 to August 13, 2012 in four different locations of which Magnolia plantation is very close to area where Northup was confined for long 12 years.

Deserving its place the three awards are for 1) best picture 2) Best supporting actress for Nyong’o and 3) best adapted screenplay.It was praised by many media outlets. The box office revenue were impressive with $ 171 millions as against cost of $ 20 millions.
It also proved to be a box office success, earning over $171 million on a production budget of $20 million.
It has the laurels of the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Drama, and the British Academy of Film and Television Art and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts recognized the film with the Best Film and the Best Actor award for Ejiofor.
