Trevi Fountain in Rome, Italy:
The unique feature about the fountain is that it has become a source of donation for the needy in Rome, Italy. An estimated Euro 3000 are collected each day and the grand total touches a figure of over one Million Euros in a year.
Trevi fountain is located at a junction of three roads (trie vie). It is a popular tourist attraction. This fountain was designed by an architect named Nikola Salvi. There is a popular custom of throwing coins by locals or tourists by the right hand over the left shoulder and the wish is granted if it is from a pure heart and is a noble wish. The fountain has the dimensions of Standing 26.3 metres (86 ft) high and 49.15 metres (161.3 ft) wide. It is one of the most famous fountain around the world. Many movies have shown it including Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita.
The fountain has a history since its building. They say the fountain was located with the help of a virgin for supply of water around and Rome. It had supplied water to the Rome about 400 years earlier. Earlier in 1629 the Pope Urban VIII was not happy with the previous fountain, had asked Gian Lorenzo Bernini to sketch possible renovations, but the project was abandoned when the Pope died. Though the Bernini plan was never carried out but many touches of design can be seen today.
It had been restored more than once. The latest restoration Italian fashion company Fendi will be taking up to complete it at the phenomenal cost of 2.2 millions Euros this year
