Monorail – The Fastest train in the World ;
Moving through trains is the most popular mode of traveling in our world. The engineers have made trains moving very fast and pick up speed instantly. Already trains are made to travel over 500 km per hour. One such train is called Transrapid-09 traveling by name of Meglev monorail in Germany. It has no wheels, axles or Gears but only magnetic propulsion. It picks up speed up to 200 km with in 60 seconds. The Chinese company Meglev has commissioned in collaboration with Siemens monorail trains traveling at 500km.
Mono rail is “an advanced technology in which magnetic forces lift, propel, and guide a vehicle over a guide-way.” Simply put, maglev monorail follows the guide-way as conventional monorail does, but powerful magnets provide propulsion and lift. With most maglevs, there are no wheels touching the track surface, the train “floats” instead of rolling.
Transrapid is a German high-speed monorail train using magnetic levitation. Based on a patent from 1934, planning of the Transrapid system started in 1969. The test facility for the system in Emsland, Germany was completed in 1987. In 1991, the technical readiness for application was approved by the Deutsche Bundesbahn in cooperation with renowned universities. In 2004, the first commercial implementation was completed.
The Shanghai ( In China ) Maglev Train connects the rapid transit network 30.5 km (18.95 mi) to the Shanghai Pudong International Airport. The Trans-rapid system has not yet been deployed on a long-distance intercity line. The system is developed and marketed by Transrapid International, a joint venture of Siemens and ThyssenKrupp.
MONORAILS are safe. Whether they are of the straddle-beam or suspended variety, modern monorail technology makes derailment virtually impossible. As monorail is elevated, accidents with surface traffic are impossible. Zero accidents with pedestrians or surface traffic translates to no system down time, less liability suits and most importantly, a safer public.
MONORAILS are environment friendly. Since most are electrically powered, monorails are non-polluting. In 2007, the Las Vegas Monorail aided in the annual removal of an estimated 3.2 million vehicle miles from Southern Nevada’s major roadways and reduced emissions by more than 58 tons of carbon monoxide (CO), volatile organic compounds (VOC) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) over the course of the year. Since the tires are made of rubber they are not nosy at all.

Most monorails run on rubber tires and are very quiet. Monorails are the most aesthetically pleasing of all elevated rail systems. Their sleek design blends in with modern urban environments. Quick construction time results in less disruption to the surrounding environments, whether business or residential.
Thinkers that look beyond the current ways of doing things in transportation can easily envision transit monorails. The public, the political forces and the business community won’t see it without a huge change of perspective. Therefore get interested and be a part of the movement.
